Farmer’s Beers battle at this year’s Fieldays

Interisland rivalry is alive and well

A North Island versus South Island battle will be waged at Fieldays this year in the bar, but it’s not the brawl you’d expect.

As we are the Official Beer Supplier of Fieldays, we thought it would be fun to invite two farmers to our Hamilton brewery to help out with brewing their own versions of a lager, and then make the beers available to try at the agricultural event.

Over two early mornings in May, Ken, a sheep and beef farmer from the Mackenzie High Country in the South Island, and Gaz, a Dairy Farmer from Morrinsville in the North Island, each joined the Good George brew team to put down a batch of lager which will be released at the Fieldays bars, and at our Good George bars and restaurants.

At each of the locations where the beers will be served, our customers will have a chance to vote for their favourite and decide the winning brew, and ultimately the winning island. The winning brew will join Good George’s core range of products, and the farmer brewer representative will get glory and the praise of his island, plus a few samples to share with his mates

Our Head Honcho Race Louden says “We really enjoy being part of people’s Fieldays experience, and see this as a chance to further engage with the visitors there. As well as getting these farmers involved in the brews and facilitating a bit of friendly inter island competition, we’re going to donate 50 cents from each pint of the Farmers’ lagers sold through our own network of bars to Farmstrong. We know some people are going through a tough time at the moment with Mycoplasma Bovis taking a real toll, so we see this as a small way we can help support these guys and the industry.”

Farmers Brew North Lager by Gaz, and Farmers Brew South Lager by Ken will be available on tap in Good George bars from Friday 8 June, then on site at the Fieldays bars during the event from 13 – 16 June.
