We seem to make a habit here in Hamilton of ripping on our town’s reputation for it’s unique weather, quality citizens, and its unofficial motto as “NZ’s best city to leave”. But we also like to celebrate what makes it unique. As a tribute to the ominous fog that rolls through town this time of year, we’re excited to present our latest release, Fog City Hazy IPA.
It’s a style of beer that’s grown in popularity in recent times, thanks to craft beer fans preferring to chew their IPAs. With minimal filtering, this brew has all the good bits left in, and as a result has a full body and smooth, creamy finish. The difference is in the malt used to lay down the initial brew, which in this case leans heavily on rolled oats and wheat to form a thicker wort (porridge-like substance before the hops are added). Filtration isn’t as harsh as usual, and leaves the end result cloudier, with a bigger mouth feel.
Thanks to the use of double dry hopping and light filtration, Fog City has huge aromas of tropical and citrus fruit. Due to it’s haziness, beer particles may drift to the bottom of the bottle. If required, you can give this squealer a gentle roll to bring the haze back, then share it out and raise a glass.
Hops: Citra, Mosaic, Galaxy, Amarillo
