What started as a comment on the Good George Facebook page during Beervana 2018 has turned into a world class distillery at the newly constructed Brewtown in Upperhutt. Owned and operated by Russel Kirk, Wildkiwi Distillery is the latest Good George bar to open, and the first to open in the greater Wellington region. Kirk has set up the distillery to produce a range of spirits, but wanted to find a suitable brewery to partner with to develop the full hospitality experience.
Also in the Brewtown complex is Panhead, Kereru, Bone Face, and Te Aro Brewing. Although we aren’t brewing beer in Upper Hutt, Russel plans to make a range of spirits, and currently has his first batch of whiskey done and dusted.
His first batch of only 50 bottles of whisky has been distilled at Brewtown, and neatly packaged into hand crafted, ceramic bottles made by Otaki Potter Paula Archibald from Clay Art Ceramics.
Aside from the ever-growing range of hand crafted spirits, the bar also boasts a range of over 200 different whiskies from around the world, as well as a few gins, rums, and vodkas. Also featured is a range of our beers and ciders, including seasonal releases. The usual tasting flights are available at the bar, and bottles and cans are available to take home on your way out.
Check out the page here, and stop by next time you’re heading to Upper Hutt.
