Hobbiton Southfarthing Range
Good George is proud to be the brewer of Middle-earth, crafting and supplying the exclusive range of beer, cider and ginger beer served in the Green Dragon™ Inn at Hobbiton™ Movie Set.
The enchanting village of Hobbiton is a slice of Middle-earth movie magic in the heart of rural Matamata, around 45 mins from Good George Brewery. Sir Peter Jackson’s team found the location in 1998 when searching for a location to film The Shire™ as part of the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The village was partially deconstructed after filming, and then recreated years later for the filming of The Hobbit trilogy. This time, it was created from permanent materials that have remained after filming wrapped for fans and visitors to enjoy.
In 2012 The Green Dragon Inn was opened as the finale to the journey. Guests finish their Hobbiton Movie Set experience with a refreshing beverage from the Hobbit Southfarthing Range. Since the opening of the Inn made famous through JRR Tolkien’s novels and Sir Peter Jackson’s recreation, Good George has been brewing the ales served to all guests that visit the piece of movie magic.
The range of ales are delivered direct from our brewing tanks in Frankton to the serving tanks at Hobbtion and poured from the barrels of The Green Dragon Inn, the Hobbit Southfarthing range captures the taste of The Shire, home of the Hobbits.
