Moo & Brew, a simple combo that’s as good as it gets.
We realize there’s a need to pair our craft beer with food that’s equally considered, and produced with care and attention. There’s something natural about seeking a crafted dish to live up to your beer, and something even more natural about doing so with burgers.
That being said, for the month of August, bars and restaurants from Auckland to Rotorua have put their hat in the ring for another Good George Moo & Brew competition. The criteria this year, think outside the box.
Venture out into the big world of beers and burgers, and have a go at these fantastic dishes. Vote for your favourite to go in the draw to win weekly spot prizes, and keep up to date on social for more info.
Cook Street Social
Stack them high and watch them fly, or so they say at Cook Street Social. The HOPPED UP ON COFFEE burger is stacked with a coffee infused beef patty, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion rings, hopped mayo and a side of fries.
If a moo with your brew is not your style we’ve got this colourful contribution by Hayes Common, NEEDLE IN THE HAYES-STACK Vegan Burger. Falafel crumbed Portobello mushroom stuffed with vegan red pepper ricotta, charred courgette, beetroot hummus, rocket, crispy needle mushrooms and swede fries on the side. Wash it down with a vegan IPA.
THE GOOD MAC on the Moo & Brew menu this August here at the brewery. Sous vide beef brisket patty, smoked cheddar cheese, and deep fried pickle served in a brioche bun, all topped with a spicy Mississippi comeback sauce. Wash it down with an IPA, and settle in to watch a bit of batch brewing going on around you.
The PORK IN LUST WITH A BEER YOUR CAN TRUST may sound like a mouthful but it goes down a treat with an APA. Twice cooked sticky pork belly served in a crusty baguette, with chicken liver pate, pickled carrots, cucumber ribbons, fresh chilli, coriander and crackling. With a side of cross hatch fries and sriracha mayo. Paired with an APA.
Croissant bun, bacon, walnuts, and watercress all containing a rich venison pattie, paired with a rich Good George Stout. Little George has a hearty option this Moo & Brew with their OH DEER LORD.
The Local Taphouse
The local take on an American classic. The HOPPY COMBO at The Local Taphouse with more than just a burger. Challenging the traditional with a mulled Doris Plum Cider. Warm yourself up with this Moo and Brew combo, and then cool yourself with an ice-cream sundae.
Anann - Te Puke
Getting tropical in Te Puke with the DUCK IT burger at Anann. Citrus poached duck, pineapple rings, and Italian prosciutto, all rolled up in a spent grain ‘pillow’ roll. Wash it down with an IPA. Worth the trip to kiwifruit country
DAISY MEETS PEPPA at Good Neighbour with this smokey Moo & Brew entry. Beef pattie, smoked gouda, bacon jam, and tempura fried pickle on top. Paired with an IPA.
Moo & Brew is sinful at this Cambridge chapel. FORGIVE ME FATHER FOR I HAVE SMOKED is Good Union’s entry in this year’s Moo & Brew. served on a charcoal burger bun with a smoked marinated beef patty, this bourbon glazed beauty is “to die for”.
Waihi Beach Hotel
Way out in Waihi is a burger so spicy, you’ll need a dip at the beach to cool off. Waihi Beach Hotel’s Black RING BURGER has their secret recipe fried chicken, Japanese chilli coleslaw and pickled radish, all held together in a black charcoal bun.
If a pint of Ace of Spades Stout wasn’t enough of a meal, match it with a CHEEKY CAULI Burger at Szimpla. Stout braised beef cheek, cauliflower cheese pattie, pickled cauliflower, mustard mayo, smoked cheese and crispy kale. Try it with some stout battered onion rings!
This one’s getting sweet and spicy in sulphur city with CBK Rotorua’s DOUG THE DOUGHNUT. 100% ground beef patty, topped with layers of cheese, crispy onions, and pickles. Sealed together with a spicy chipotle BBQ sauce, and two sweet sugary doughnuts. Give your taste buds a ride with this combination. Paired with an APA.
Okere Falls Store
The FUNGUY IN A BLACKBERRY TANGLE Burger is certainly one to get off the beaten track for in Rotorua. We here this burger is in a ‘spot of truffle’. Sesame panko portabello mushroom, vegan halloumi, pickled beets, blackberry, coriander and truffle aioli on a charcoal bun. Wash it down with a well-paired Blackberry Cider.
The Barn Burger And Grill
Braised beef rib on Barn’s BBQ sauce in a brioche bun. Say that ten times fast. Serve it up with freshly chopped coleslaw, and you’ve got The Barn Burger and Grill’s SLOW MOO RIB BURGER. Wash it down with an IPA next time your at the Mount.
